I love the freedom of my work - I can take it anywhere. I love that I can stay home with my children, and still build a business and work from home. I'm told I have a dream job, and a dream life. I agree!
It's easy to romanticize it though, and put out all these snapshots of perfect moments.
If we're honest with each other and ourselves though, there is the picturesque version of our day, and the less photogenic aspect.

We can't discount either as the fake though, because both are a true element of a larger picture. I think the trouble comes when we assume one small element to be the whole. That's when skewed perception of reality raises our expectations, and breeds discontentment. I think we need to take all the books we read, news we watch and yes, even videos and pictures we see online, with a good dose of awareness. There is always more story than a glimpse can tell.
Today, for example, this is my work space.

I am, however, not alone.
Swarms of mosquitos necessitate DEET if I'm going to enjoy this day without flailing like some crazed ape.
Same workplace, same day, different camera angle. It's all in the presentation.
Oh - that box fan? That's the natural attempt at capturing mosquitos. Box fan plus sheer curtains (my sister's creation) equals dead mosquitos. It's brilliant, but no match for the swarms.
So, slathered in DEET, I squint when the sun shines on me, and I migrate around this deck from shade to shade as the hours pass.
But once I find that perfect shade, and with a fresh layer of spray applied, it's a picturesque workplace again... for a while.
What do you love about your job?
