Poplars are my favorite tree.
They always seem like they’re celebrating.
Round leaves dangle like earrings. Sunlight glints off of their smooth sides as they gently jangle in a breeze.
When the wind pushes past, thousands of leaves wiggle, bringing the tree to life in a swarm of flapping butterflies.
Best of all is the sound of a million tiny leaves brushing together in the wind. Sometimes it sounds like ocean waves. Sometimes it sounds like it looks – like a thousand round leaves applauding.
A forest of trees stands in ovation for the One who made today.
And we have the honor of watching.
Of joining in.
Of awaiting the encore.
“Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice!
Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!
Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy!
Let the trees of the forest sing for joy
before the Lord, for he is coming!”
Psalm 96:11-13a
